We know you are not the culprit, but many motorists think it is acceptable to chuck their rubbish while on the move. McDonald's car parks are the worst as you could probably imagine. Motorists are now being warned they could face hefty fines if caught dropping a cigarette butt out of their windows. As the massive crackdown continues, one motorist in Ipswich was slapped with an £80 fine for flicking his cigarette.

Escalating Fines

If you fail to pay the initial on the spot fine, the driver will be faced with court proceedings with the magistrates ordering offenders to pay £450 in fines and legal costs. Although it won’t appear on your criminal record, dropping rubbish is a criminal offence under the Environmental Protection Act.

Think - Save any rubbish until you arrive at your destination and dispose of it properly.

Contrary to what some motorists believe, it is not an offence to smoke behind the wheel unless you’re driving a work vehicle or carrying passengers under 18.
